Magma may provide signal for super-volcano eruptions

Volcanologists find a stagnant mountain can reawaken very quickly, in just several decades

This is scary news for Yellowstone. The magma pocket under Yellowstone has been active and growing for several decades at least. The last eruption of Yellowstone put ash on the East Coast of the US!

    Yellowstone was the first thing I thought of. Makes me happy I'm to the west of it, and therefore on the right side of the prevailing winds. On the other hand, things shifting around and outgassings appear to be perfectly normal for the area. Since we've only been monitoring it for around 30 years, we don't really know what long term cyclic patterns for that volcano look like.

    Eruptions at Yellowstone are infrequent, and therefore not terribly likely in our lifetimes, but it only takes once, right? KABOOM! O_O;
